- There are suggestions that we should use VPN connection to our computers, due to Egyptian internet restrictions.
- We should not use ANY public Wi-Fi, not even in the COP venue. The risk for hacking is too big. Instead, we are advised to buy local SIM cards (available in the airport, 150-200 EGP).
- When arriving to Sharm airport there are shuttle busses to most hotels. There should also be a stand, where it is possible to ask. It is not a good idea to take a “white taxi” due to security reasons. A taxi to downtown should cost around 400 EGP.
With the purpose of providing further information regarding logistics as follows:
1. You do not need a COVID 19 test to enter Egypt. Only a valid Covid certificate is required.
2. Airport: All international travelers have a separate baggage collection area. Please ask airport security to avoid delays and confusion.
3. Airport transfer: Taxis are available and are paid in cash. Please exchange your currency at the airport. They on average charge USD 20- 50 but hardly issue receipts.. If you need transportation with receipt, get to contact the hotel you're staying in and they can avail transport.
4. Sharm is generally secure but as usual, please take care of your items.
5. If you intend to buy a local line, please show them the UNFCCC accreditation letter and you get yourself bonus 10GB for (Vodaphone at the moment ) at the airport’s exit gate.
5. Kindly notify our logistics focal point on any logistical challenges you face. His email is zaid.shawabkeh@actalliance.org. Contact +962799308191
6. We encourage you to download Signal app, activate it, and use it more frequently while at COP 27. We will use this app for our thematic group communication. The general WhatsApp group for the entire delegation remains. If you're not yet in this WhatsApp group, please contact fiona.connelly@actalliance.org.

Cooperation during COP27
Cooperation initiatives
Every morning, 8-00-8.30, we will have a joint check in, to plan for the day.
Every evening, we will have a joint check out, to assess the day.
There will be two joint strategy sessions.
We will have a joint website (FABO) which can be accessed through an app (search for FABO in your app store) where you can access the information in this package, as well as the daily program and other resources.
We have a joint mailing list for the ecumenical delegation. Contact Julius Mbatia <julius.mbatia@actalliance.org> if you are not already added to the list.
During the summit Negotiations are fast pacing so we will also be communicating through Whatsapp throughout the day. (Whatsapp group and link will be created and added)
(Thematic whatsapp groups will be created and added too)
Inside outside cooperation
People on the inside will focus on interaction with delegates, journalists and other participants, as well as follow negotiations which are open.
People on the outside will focus on meetings which are accessible online (e.g. press conferences, side events and some of the formal sessions), and assist with assessment of documents, sharing of media initiatives and production of materials.
We need people both on the inside and outside, and we will do our best to facilitate good cooperation throughout the summit.
-
Before you go to Sharm el Sheikh
Suggest a few concrete actions, e.g.:
- Engage in advocacy to influence the COP27 mandate, of your government. (ACT Advocacy package to be shared)
- Tell journalists in your country you are going.
- Contact the national delegation of your country before the conference. If possible set up a meeting.
- Attend preparatory calls with ACT alliance, and make sure you are on the relevant mailinglists before the COP starts.
- Read UNFCCC documents which are relevant for the theme you will follow, before you go. You will find a guide to the different themes above. It is also good to read the Paris agreement.
