Remember the example of steps related to Sally’s juice business goal. The first step was to identify the restaurants where customers want fresh fruit juice. If we break this step or task into a few smaller tasks, the list of tasks could be the following:

 

1. Make a list of local restaurants where juice is available. Sally should decide who will get that list ready and when.

2. Find out from the restaurant staff or customers whether juice is selling well. Sally has to decide who will find out and when.

3.  Sally needs to talk with the restaurant manager or owner about the juice business. She should convince the manager/owner as to why her fresh juice is good for business, and she should make a sales contract with the restaurant.

 

The second step is that Sally needs to make sure that juice is always fresh and delivered when promised. How should this big task be broken into three smaller tasks?

 

The third step is that Sally needs to tell other people that they can get fresh juice from her retail shop. How should this big task be broken into three smaller tasks?

 

At the end of this exercise there should be three small tasks for each bigger task. That is nine small tasks together. This is called an operational plan.
