One of the most important managing skills is the ability to organise. Organising means you are able to:

·         Break one big mission into smaller missions, or break a long journey into many steps,

·         Decide who should do which mission when, or who should take which step,

·         Communicate instructions to those who are responsible for doing the missions, or completing the steps.

A Case Study

Sally gets her first big order from a restaurant that wants 120 litres of fresh juice. They agree that the restaurant will send a driver to collect the juice next Sunday. Sally is a bit nervous because she has not organised a large order before. She feels that this customer is important, and she wants to provide good service.

Let’s help Sally do a good job!

What should Sally ask the customer before starting to work on the order?

How should she break the big mission into smaller missions?

How should she organise who should do which mission and when?

How should she instruct her employees?
