  • About DCA

    • DanChurchAid (DCA) is a Danish humanitarian, not for profit NGO based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The organization was established in 1922 and has its roots in the Danish Evangelical-Lutheran Church, which still today serves as a central pillar of DCA’s constituency, providing the organization with the foundation and moral obligation to operate across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus. DCA envisions a world without hunger, poverty, or oppression where political and popular powers work for a just and sustainable use and distribution of resources by achieving the following goals:

      1. Save lives: DCA is committed to intervene when individuals and communities are affected by crises and natural disasters by ensuring timely humanitarian and emergency response, distribution of aid especially through cash-based intervention, assisting local disaster risk reduction and emergency preparedness, and educating on and engaging in mine action.
      2. Build resilient communities: DCA supports in ensuring sustainable development  for communities across the globe by focusing on global advocacy, local disaster risk reduction and building the resilience of vulnerable communities through facilitating sustainable livelihoods, job opportunities and empowerment of local stakeholders.
      3. Fight extreme inequality: Within this goal, DCA aims to build the capacities of civil societies, Civil Society Organization (CSOs) and human rights defenders, promote human rights and support inclusive decision-making processes as well as strong, accountable, and responsible institutions.

      DCA in Kenya

Since the early 1990s Kenya, DCA has been supporting refugees and local communities in Kakuma and Turkana County with humanitarian assistance and long-term development aid.  DCA in Kenya has since extended focus to other counties - Nakuru, Nyandarua, West Pokot, Baringo, Elgeyo Marakwet, Busia & Siaya Counties.

In April 2023, DCA commenced the implementation of a new five-year country programme (2023 – 2027) which outlines key strategies and thematic areas of focus in Kenya. These include food, value chain & market systems; youth economic empowerment through promotion of entrepreneurship, financial inclusion and life skills development; resilience and reliance building; promotion of gender equality; and peace building.  In this regard, DCA will contribute to the goals of saving lives, building resilient communities, and fighting extreme inequality, in line with the DCA global results framework. The country programme is aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and founded on a rights-based approach in the humanitarian-development-peace nexus covering immediate needs assistance, resilience, self-reliance and peaceful-co-existence between refugees and host communities.

Request for  Expression of Interest (EoI)
