    • ABOUT THE EVENT

      Localisation is one of the most pressing initiatives in the humanitarian-development-peace sector. Its purpose is to shift decision-making and resources towards local actors and enable more locally led responses to the multitude of protracted crises that communities face.

      This training-of-trainers (ToT) event is organised by ACTLearn, a group of seven organisations working to build and strengthen capacity within the ACT Alliance. ACTLearn consists of the ACT Alliance Secretariat, Act Church of Sweden, Norwegian Church Aid, DanChurchAid, Diakonia and Lutheran World Federation. The group is facilitated and coordinated by Fabo Learning Lab.

      This webinar will hopefully be the first of a series of webinars designed to encourage and invite for reflection, self-reflection and conversation and exchange among practitioners working with localisation in civil society around the world. It is our hope that we can facilitate meaningful dialogue and experience sharing that can contribute positively to the localisation agenda.

      We will also be launching and introducing a localisation learning tool designed by DanChurchAid and Omarang Charity Association for Multipurpose (OCAM). The intention is for it to be a living tool where real-world experiences and knowledge can be shared and where conversations can continue. Find out more below.

    • The webinar will take place on Monday, December 5th, 2022, from 9:00 - 12:15 CET.

      This ToT webinar consists of two parts. Session one will introduce the narrative and concept of localisation. We will also introduce the localisation learning tool recently developed by OCAM and DCA as mentioned in the introduction above. The main objective of this session is to invite for self-reflection and conversation over some of the challenges we may experience when working with localisation. Session 2 will have a practical and experience sharing focus with three presenters from specific contexts exchanging knowledge and reflections.

      Session 1: Reflection and conversation (1.5 hrs)

      9:00 - 10:30 CET

      Welcome (5 min)

      Panel discussion: Narrative and concept around localisation. (20 min) 

      Presentation of the localisation learning tool: what is localisation. (20 min) 

      Reflection exercise in breakout rooms: Participants are invited to reflect on these topics: Who is a local actor? Moving power closer to the ground. Gender responsive localisation. (25 min) 

      Plenary to share insights from breakout room discussions. (15 min) 


      What to expect:
      The first session will primarily be an invitation for conversation and reflection on the concept of localisation. You will also be introduced to the new localisation learning tool developed by DCA and OCAM.

      We will break for 15 minutes after session 1 and resume at 10:45 CET. The meeting room link is the same.

      Session 2: Experience sharing from specific contexts (1.5 hrs)


      10:45 - 12:15 CET

      Presentation panel:  Localisation in practice / Experience sharing and challenges. Including Q&A. Presenters are Hepi Rahmawati, Fred Bully, and Melton Luhanga. (45 min) 

      Presentation of localisation learning tool and experience sharing by Peter Talbaki Appolo. (20 min) 

      Discussion in plenary (20 min) 

      Wrap-up (5 min)


      What to expect:
      You will hear about specific experiences from different contexts on how localisation is being practised and there will be a group discussion. You will also be introduced to more of the localisation learning tool and have a chance to explore the features with one of the co-creators of the tool.

    • Before the event

      • The event takes place in Microsoft Teams. You can use Teams in the browser, but for full functionality, please download Teams to your device. You can find more information about how to install the programme here.
      • Make sure you have access to a headset with a microphone and test it the day before.
      • Join the digital event room 10 minutes ahead of time. Like this we can all start together and solve technical problems that may arise.


      During the event

      • Use a headset for the webinar, if possible. This will help all participants to hear you clearly.
      • Mute your microphone when you are not speaking, so we do not experience disturbing background noises.
      • Turn on your camera, if your internet connection allows. It creates a more visible audience for the presenters.
      • Raise your hand or use the chat to ask questions or give comments.
      • If connectivity is a problem, try closing down other apps or programmes.
      • If you have technical issues, write us in the chat.
