Presentation of Birol Yücelbas – Care for Others, Denmark

by Birol Yücelbas -

My name is Birol Yücelbas, and I serve as the Treasurer for the association Care for Others. In my role, I am responsible not only for overseeing the financial management of the organization but also for planning and executing projects of varying sizes – from small, local initiatives to medium and larger-scale programs.

Our association focuses primarily on supporting communities in Africa, with a particular emphasis on Malawi. We work closely with local partners to ensure that our projects are effective, sustainable, and responsive to the communities’ needs. One of our key partners in Malawi is Gift of the Givers, with whom we collaborate to deliver aid, develop programs, and support community development initiatives.

Through my role, I am deeply involved in coordinating these efforts, ensuring proper budgeting, reporting, and compliance with donor requirements, as well as facilitating collaboration between our team and our partners on the ground. This ensures that each project is planned, executed, and monitored to achieve meaningful impact for the beneficiaries.

Expectations for the CISU Course

We are participating in this course with the aim of strengthening our ability to develop and manage small-scale projects funded by CISU. Specifically, we expect to gain practical knowledge and skills in:

  • Designing and planning projects that are responsive to local needs.
  • Managing project budgets, financial reporting, and compliance according to CISU requirements.
  • Monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) to ensure that projects achieve measurable results.
  • Collaborating effectively with local partners to ensure sustainable and locally owned outcomes.

Identifying risks and implementing strategies to mitigate financial, operational, and social risks.

We anticipate that the course will enhance our capacity to implement projects in Malawi and other regions, ensuring that even small programs are well-structured, impactful, and fully compliant with donor and CISU expectations. This knowledge will directly improve the effectiveness of our work and enable us to expand our project portfolio responsibly.

Mette Vinqvist, Preferred by Nature (DK-based)

by Mette Vinqvist -

Hi colleagues,

I'm Mette, leading project and programme development for Preferred by Nature in collaboration with our partners across several countries. My colleague, Padmore, in Ghana is already involved in the implementation of a small CISU programme granted earlier this year, and we hope his joining can also 'fertilise' the next application.
Preferred by Nature is primarily a 'green' organisation, working with sustainable land use/natural resource management, but trying to connect market incentives and decent livelihoods, i.e. business with decent and profitable smallholder livelihoods through e.g. carbon and biodiversity incentives.
In Indonesia, we work with KRKP and plan to apply for a small CISU programme in March, and so two colleagues, Lily and Ayip, will also participate.
Personally, I've worked with development proposals and projects for a long time since my first CISU logframe course more than 25 years ago. Looking forward to interacting and learning more.

Over the past few years, we’ve been proud to partner with Danish People’s Aid (DPA) — our true ally in building resilience and inclusion. This year, we joined forces in a consortium for the CISU call, and I see this course as an excellent opportunity to deepen our partnership, strengthen our joint expertise, and increase the impact of our humanitarian and development initiatives in Ukraine.
